Stay Cool *

If you are going to be beaten in the Champions League, then I can think of no better player to do the damage than someone who would say this, in reference to his previous club Livorno: “We get no favours from the referees because we are Communists!”

Lucarelli's second for Shaktar Donetsk against Celtic was a cracker. Jumping away from the goal, he somehow managed to stretch his neck enough to curl his head round the ball and put it beyond the reach of Boruc (whose performance kept the score to a reasonable 2-0 to Shaktar). The Shaktar forwards embarrassed the Celtic back line with the full-backs Wilson and Naylor in particular having a torrid time.

All we can say is that it could and should have been a lot worse (particularly as the Ukrainian side had a perfectly fine goal ruled out for being offside). We are definitely not looking like a side that can make it to the knock-out stages this season. I predict we'll be in the UEFA Cup as we'll finish third in the group.

Yeah, that second goal was particularly good. No shame in going down to goals like that. At least you derived some entertainment from your football viewing, unlike anyone who watched Liverpool last night.

Nice title btw. ;-)

The Ukranians looked pretty tasty to be honest. Passed the ball well, and have some quality in their team.

Best part of the pre-match run-up was hearing Gordon Strachan whinging (with a straight-face) about how Celtic didnt have the same spending resources as the Ukranians.

As Derek and Clive once sang: "Laugh, we nearly shat. We havent laughed so much since Aunt Mable caught her left tit in the mangle".

Roll on Sunday.

John - I find Liverpool a really boring team to watch, so try to avoid, particularly when the 'tic are on.

Kevin - he does have a point when it comes to comparing Scotland's best with teams in Europe. The Ukrainians spent about £45million in the summer whereas Celtic spent all of £4 million on Scott Brown and that was the extent of our spending. Btw, he was shite on Tuesday night and got booked simply cos the guy he was marking was much better than him!

Pity Celtic can't get in the Johnston's Paint Trophy competition. They'd stand a chance in that. Perhaps they could turn up disguised as Yeovil!

How I enjoyed my visit to Scotland this year; dinner with TNR and wife one night and a marvelous night at the local Celtic Supporters Club courtesy of the brother in law on another, equally memorable, evening; should've been 5, he's a good keeper, right enough. It was all I could do to remain in my seat when that third, phantom, went in. Go Lucarelli!

YP - with our defence recently, I think Yeovil would give us a good game.

Kev - you don't really think that last weekend was anything but a blip for us, do you?

Father, dear Father - glad you enjoyed it! I think I would even have enjoyed seeing them get beaten among loads of Celtic fans.
