News of the World *
There I was, watching this, bored shitless (although the result cheered me up - as did the England fans on the Radio 5 phone-in. I'm sure these same people - and I mean THE same people - who are now calling for McClaren to be sacked were insisting on the FA appointing an English manager when Sven walked off. So, who is the alternative? Pearce - no experience worth considering! Err, that's it!). Anyway, as I was saying, bored shitless, so I picked up the Lewisham and Catford News Shopper, as you do, and was delighted at such stories regarding objections to a pizza take away having a late opening license, a "brainy student" winning an essay competition and a move for a doctors' surgery. Also enjoyed - and, sorry, but no links here, the paper's "feature" on Valentine's Day, which consisted of adverts for a Greek restaurant, a curry house, florists, a barbers (how romantic), Hot Flush - The Menopause Has Never Been This Good! (musical at the Churchill Theatre) and fireworks (£20 for one which will light up the sky with a heart). Dontcha love local papers?

McLaren is a good Yorkshireman and he will do the business for England. Yes tonight's game with Spain was disappointing. We didn't create anything of note in front of goal though we deserved TWO penalties. The ref must have been Scottish!
Hmmmmmmm....bollocks. That was shite. McClaren is not, never has been and never will be good enough.
Pearce - no I'm sorry. Believe I see a hell of a lot more of him than any of you and, believe me, he is tactically inept.
On top of that, his purchases, at the very least, can be described as "questionable". Samaras? £6million? Corradi? Pointless. Dabo, Hamman, Beasley................
No depth - that's the problem with the England team. Add to that the ineptitude of our various managers over the years - allied with the over-the-top "we're the greatest team on the planet" attitude of Motson and the rest.
In short: we're shit and we know we are.
Honest.
I watched something entertaining - the DVD of Mansfield Park. Sounds like I made the right choice, which is more than can be said for the FA.
the real test is the Israel game. if we lose or draw that then mclaren has to go, simple as that. hes not been the greatest succes anyway AND he was Erikksonns right hand man wasnt he? so with Sven as a failure, his number 2 (in more than one way) isnt going to be a great success is he? the FA really do take the piss sometimes.
as for a replacement? theres a few who would be better than mclaren. venables/graham/peter taylor/keith peacock/coppell/my nan.
in short anyone would be better than the utterly useless mclaren.
YP - McLaren may be a good Yorkshireman but I don't think that'll make him do a good job for England. But, then again, I don't know who would cos the players are simply too over-rated.
steve - as more than one of the pundits has been saying over the last week or so, Pearce is in charge of a team which is going way down the league, so why do we think he's the man to do a job for the England under-21s? Which just adds to the question: What the hell would he do for the full England team? Not much more than the present bloke does, I reckon! It must be said that both the players and media have a lot to answer for: both were saying that this was the best set of England players for 40 years. Are they? I don't fucking think so! Terry better than Adams? No! Rooney or Crouch better than Linekar or Gascoigne or Platt? No! Lampard or Gerrard better than Fenwick ----- err, time for that coat!
JJ - right choice last night, but what choice did the FA have when everyone was clamouring for an English manager for England?
Cookie - couldn't agree more, that is a huge test and noticed that they drew with Ukraine on Wednesday night and that is no mean feat. But not sure of any of your choices as a replacement for McLaren though! In saying that, though, yes, he is useless!
