Steppin' Out *

Had a nice walk along the Thames this afternoon, with a short trip into Tate Modern along the way - very nice it all was and maybe a comment or two for the spectacular looking slides in the turbine hall when I get round to it.

Tonight, I'm going to Dingwalls in Camden to catch the stupendous Richmond Fontaine, whose new album Thirteen Cities sounds rather superb. So maybe a word or two on the gig if I can be bothered tomorrow.

Moo - of course, but she's back today ... hoorahh!

Ren - it was more than fun. In fact, best set I've seen them play and I've seen them five times! If anything better has ever come out of Portland, Oregon, then I'll be gobsmacked!

Barbara - welcome aboard the crap ship Reidski. JJ has been too far away - Marrakesh, to be exact - but she's home today. And I note you have a welcome visitor today, so no doubt we'll not hear from you for some time.

John - they were fantastic. And we'll make a date for the Mekons - and hope that bloke sings Where Were You again!

Should be a good show -- just stumbled on an EP of theirs in my vinyl shop: Memphis, Egypt / Heaven and Back / Cocain Lil (1989 - promo-only 12" on A&M, US [SP-17897])

They had relocated to my hometown here (Chicago) for awhile & had a huge fan base here as well. Are they back living in the UK these days?

Marc - you've got hold of a good one there. Memphis, Egypt always gets my blood running nicely.
As for your question, don't know, but I'm sure either John or Martin could answer that one, so I hope they pop in here to help you out on that!

Reidski- i was toying with seeing RF next week but wasn'tover impressed when I saw them last year (largely due to the fact that I spent the night at the bar getting plied with whiskey by a Chicagoan) so may gine them the benefit.Post to Wire is OK.

marc- Some Mekons are still based in Chicago, others in London, SF, HK and elsewhere so gigs and new recordings are not to be missed.

Beware those rascally Chicagoans...
Cheers for the Mekons info. Getting ready to see the latest incarnation of the Pogues, 5 Mar. coming to Chicago. Think the last time they were here was 88/89 when Tom Waits' 'Frank's Wild Years' was running.
Just stumbled on some new/old music that someone mentioned a few months ago -- 'Les Negresses Vertes' -- they're fucking brill.

Yes, it is 'Mlah'. Have not been able to stop playing it. Also found a cd of remixes of their work which is on its way.
Will look for Mano Negro...
